Elections
All Polling Places for the Sixteen Wards of the City of Tomah will be at the Tomah Municipal Center, 819 Superior Avenue
(Corner of West LaCrosse Street and Superior Avenue) in the Fire Station or City Hall. All polling places will open at 7:00 a.m. and will close
at 8:00 P.M. and are accessible to elderly and disabled persons.

Voter registration is conducted in the City Clerk’s Office.
Registration Changes: You can register to vote up until the Friday before the election or on Election Day. You must
reside at your address for 28 consecutive days to be eligible to vote, and you may no longer use a corroborating witness as
proof of residence. Proof of residence is required when registering less than 20 days before an election, on Election Day,
and for first time voters registering by mail. If you have been issued and have a current and valid WI drier license or WI
DOT-issued identification card (ID), you MUST provide the number. If you have not been issued a WI driver license or a WI
DOT-issued ID, you must provide the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.
VOTER REGISTRATION INFORMATION
1. Must be a resident of the CITY OF TOMAH for at least 28 days
2. Must be a U.S. Citizen and age 18 or older
3. After the close of open regitstration, proof of residency is required showing:
A. Your CURRENT NAME AND
B. Your CURRENT ADDRESS & the Name “TOMAH”, WI
4. Acceptable Forms of proof of residency include: (Must show current name and address)
A. A Current & Valid Wisconsin Drivers License
B. A Current & Valid Wisconsin I.D. Card
C. Bank Statement
D. Any Other Official I.D. Card or License Issued by a Wisconsin Govt. Body
E. An Identification Card Issued by an Employer or a University, College or Technical Institute (Must Include Name & Address)
F. Real Estate Tax Bill or Receipt (Current)
G. Residential Lease (which is effective)
H. Utility Bill (Dated not earlier than 90 days before election)
I. Current Paycheck
J. Check or Other Document Issued by a Unit of Government
5. If you have already registered but HAVE MOVED OR CHANGED YOUR NAME, YOU NEED TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE LISTED PROCEDURES.
6. IF YOU LIVE IN A TOWNSHIP OR VILLAGE, YOU NEED TO VOTE & REGISTER IN YOUR TOWNSHIP.
7. PHOTO ID IS REQUIRED unless exempt. Beginning in 2012, you cannot receive a ballot until you have met ID requirements.
Wisconsin does not issue a seperate "Voter ID" Card. Acceptable forms of Photo ID are:
Wisconsin drivers license*
Wisconsin DOT-issued photo ID card*
U.S. Passport*
Military ID card*
*The above documents may not have expired earlier than the date of the last November election.
Certificate of Naturalization issued within last two years
Unexpired Wisconsin drivers license or state ID receipt
ID card issued by a federally recognized Indian Tribe in Wisconsin.
Unexpired ID issued by a Wisconsin accredited university or college that contains an issuance date, student signature, and expiration date
within two years issuance, along with a separate document showing proof of current enrollment.
Photo ID is always required when voting at the polling place and at the Clerk’s office unless you are a confidential elector.
Photo ID is not required for these absentee voters:
Military electors
Voters who are permanently abroad
Confidential electors
Photo ID is not required, but is replaced with alternative requirements for these absentee voters:
Indefinitely confined voters
Nursing home and other care facility residents who have ballots delivered by a Special Voting Deputy
Residents of care facilities who are not visited by a Special Voting Deputy
Voters who are required but unable to provide photo ID may vote by provisional ballot. Provisional ballots are not counted unless the voter provides an
acceptable photo ID to the municipal clerk by 4 p.m. the Friday after an election.
CHANGES TO ABSENTEE VOTING:
Absentee voting in the clerk’s office is now restricted to the two weeks before an election. Absentee voting now ends at the close of business
THE FRIDAY BEFORE THE ELECTION. Absentee voters in the clerk’s office must present the same type of Photo ID required at the polls.
Beginning in 2012, absentee requests for ballots sent by mail must be accompanied by a photocopy of an acceptable form of voter ID. Once you have sent
the clerk’s office a photocopy of your ID, you will not need to send photocopies with future absentee ballot requests unless you change your name or
address.
SIGNING THE POLL BOOK
Voters must sign the poll book to obtain a ballot. The poll book now contains a signature block for each voter. Only one poll book needs to be signed.
Voters unable to sign the poll book because of a physical disability are exempt from the requirement. If this applies to you, tell the election officials
that you are unable to sign because of a disability. Election officials will write “Exempt” in your signature block.

February 21, 2012 Spring Primary
April 3, 2012 Spring/Presidential Preference Election
August 14, 2012 Partisan Primary
November 6, 2012 General Election
Recall Election dates have not been scheduled at thsi time. It is anticipated they will be held in May or June of 2012.
