The Department of Inspection & Zoning provides a full range of services including: plan review; construction and property maintenance inspection field operations; floodplain regulation; full electrical, erosion control, HVAC, and plumbing inspection operations; abandoned and junk vehicles on private property, enforcement of minimum housing standards; liquor license inspections; sign inspections; and assignment of property addresses.

 

When applying for a building permit for a new building, an addition and/or alteration, please remember to provide a "to-scale" drawing of the property (preferably a survey) that accurately depicts all existing and proposed structures on the parcel.

 

Plan Commission

The Plan Commission meets the last Thursday of the month at 5:30 PM in the City Council Chambers located at City Hall, 819 Superior Ave, Tomah., WI. Dates and times are subject to change due to holidays.

  • All Certified Survey Maps to be received by the Public Works Office no later than ten days prior to the scheduled meeting. Earlier submission is better to allow time for review to make sure all aspects of the proposal are aligned with policy guidelines and complete. See below under Supporting Documents for a list of surveyors. 

Sec. 52-257. - Annexation/zoning change/alteration in lot size. 

(c) Any alteration or change requested in lot size or configuration shall be on either:

(1) A certified survey map; or

(2) A map prepared by a registered land surveyor which identifies both the new and old boundaries of the property sought to be changed and an accurate legal description.

  • Outdoor Facility License - Class 1 conditional use permit needs to be received by the Public Works Office no later than seventeen days prior to the schedules meeting. Earlier submission is better to allow time for review to make sure all aspects of the proposal are aligned with policy guideline and complete.

  • All rezoned or amended ordinances need to be received by the Public Works Office no later than one month prior to the scheduled meeting. Earlier submission is better to allow time for review to make sure all aspects of the proposal are aligned with policy guidelines and complete.
